THE WAY OF THE LIGHT

Coming early 2028 with HQ HaperCollins

A grieving young mother.

A seductive cult.

A social media influencer whose touch rewires your mind.

What could possibly go wrong?

Life couldn’t get any worse for Frankie Whitman, whose marriage is hanging by a thread after the death of her young son. With nothing to live for in Melbourne, she finds a lifeline in Mara Lynn, a social media guru who can induce euphoria at the touch of her fingertip. Mara offers Frankie healing at her tech-free commune in rural Queensland; a chance to get away and start afresh. At Lynnhaven, Frankie discovers she is one of the ‘chosen’, selected to pioneer a new way of life, and finds herself supported and healing under Mara’s Light.

Investigative journalist Adam has been looking into Mara ever since his best friend Jonty died at one of Mara’s retreats, and he’s convinced her power is more sinister than it seems. Adam adopts a new identity and goes undercover at Lynnhaven, but when he experiences the Light for himself, his scepticism begins to crumble.

As they settle into the communal rhythms, Adam and Frankie fall in love and break a promise that binds them to Lynnhaven forever. As Mara grows increasingly unhinged and the walls close in around them, Frankie and Adam must reckon with the wounds of their past to escape their leader’s control.
